Who to call to Report Possible Identity Theft?
Besides the obvious credit cards & banks, there are other calls you can make to protect your identity.
- The Federal Trade Commission-(FTC) The FTC is the federal agency responsible for receiving & processing cmplaints by people who believe they have been a victim of identity theft. Trained counselors will provide information on the steps that you should take to resolve problems and repair damage to your credit report. -Three major credit bureaus- Equifax 1-800-525-6285, Experian 888-397-3742, Trans Union 800-680-7289
-Social Security Administration- Fraud Hotline 1-800-269-0271 (to verify earnings reported to SSA call 1-800-772-1213)
-Motor Vehicle Division- Call & ask what procedures are in place to ensure that someone else does not get a driver's license in your name.
